During the napoleonic wars Austria started to recruit a squadron of Ulans from Galicia after the partition of Poland and later expanded it to Regimental size, 2 other regiments were soon to follow. until 1815 Austria had 4 Ulan regiments. Regimental distinction was the colour of the Czapka, in this case green.
