How to avoid thread tension mistakes in your embroidery projects
I could’ve left this knot as it was.. Maybe no one would have noticed it - But I noticed it, and the perfectionist in me couldn’t leave it 🤭 Instead of settling for messy tension, I did what I always teach - I cut it out and fixed it! ✨ Tension mistakes happen to everyone (yes, even me!) ✨ Tension problems won’t “fix themselves”.. if a stitch is too loose or too tight, it’ll affect the whole piece! ✨ Re-stitching doesn’t take long, and I’m always happy I did! Here’s how to avoid tension mistakes in the first place: ✔️ Keep your thread at consistent tension. Not too tight, not too loose! ✔️ If your stitches look floppy, your tension is too loose, hold the fabric tighter. ✔️ Don’t be afraid to cut out mistakes - sometimes, the best thing you can do is start fresh🫶🏼

How to finish the back of your embroidery project
The worst advice I’ve heard is to not knot the back of your embroidery 🤷🏼♀️ And honestly? I think it’s super ‘old fashioned’ advice 🫢 You don’t need to avoid knots in your embroidery! In fact, tieing off your stitching with a secure knot is the BEST way to finish the back of the hoop Not only does it keep it secure, it also keeps it super neat too! Three tips for transferring your embroidery patterns
There are a bunch of ways to transfer your embroidery pattern, but in my opinion, this way is the best way. ✨1. Use a Pilot Frixion heat erasable pen. If you totally get it wrong and need to start again, or if you don’t quite embroider inside the lines, it’s not a problem. Just apply some heat and you’re good to go! ✨2. Take your time with tracing. It’s not a race! Taking the extra time to draw an accurate pattern can save you more than just time in the long run. ✨3. Tape down your pattern AND your project. Having both components taped to a surface helps to prevent either one moving around while you’re trying to trace. Game changer, trust me! (I know I haven’t done that here, but I’ve gotten used to holding it still now! Tape it up if you struggle with a steady hand✍🏼)
Struggling with transferring your embroidery pattern? Try this ➡️
With a lightpad, it’s super simple! Here’s how to do it: 1️⃣ Print out the pattern. All of my PDF Patterns come with a correctly sized pattern template to trace🖊️ 2️⃣ Tape your pattern to your lightpad. Don’t have a lightpad? No problem, you can use a window!! Do you want a lightpad? You can find this one linked in my ‘fave things’ highlight on my profile!✨ 3️⃣ Trace with a heat erasable pilot frixion pen And voila, you’re done! It’s super simple, and when you learn to trace patterns this way rather than relying on printed fabric, you can begin having so much more freedom and flexibility with your embroidery projects 🪡 Have you tried transferring patterns this way? Fed up of your stick and stitch not coming off properly?
I can’t believe no-one is talking about this! Did you know that if you wash off stick + stitch paper with hot water, the ink (and potentially dye from the thread) is more likely to run? If you’ve ever stitched a white top and had the stitching bleed into the fabric, then you’ll know what I’m talking about 😖 And how to avoid that? By washing the paper off with cold to luke-warm water, you minimise that risk massively!! Did you know this?! Let’s chat! And pssttt.. want more tips like this?
