La Jolla Tide Pools are on Point Loma base. If you haven't visited, I do highly recommend planning a trip, but during weekdays more towards the morning time to avoid crowds and families (if you're not a fan of people like me or prefer a quieter setting). The drive to get to the tide pools area is beautiful, yet saddening. If you make the drive, you'll understand what I mean by that. Never forget the fallen. Aside from that, military access is free and civilians cost is about $10-$20 per vehicle,
Based on the most-extensive set of analysis ever made in tide pools, research suggests that oceans becoming acidic will progressively put more and more marine organisms in danger by aggravating normal changes in ocean chemistry that happen overnight. The study conducted along California’s rough coastline by Ken Caldeira and Lester Kwiatkowski from Carnegie shows that the most-affected organisms will be those with calcium carbonate shells or exoskeletons.
