I did this! Plastic milk crates covered in fabric to use as a night stand/bookshelf in a girl's room. Very easy to do. I started with plain Elmer's glue to attach the fabric but found it very time consuming. Half way through the first crate I remembered I had a can of spray adhesive and I finished covering both crates in less than 20 minutes!  Wanting to add a different color to the inside  of it still-purple or pink maybe? Welcome any comments as this is my first DIY to post here.

Milk Crate those are Ikea pillow cases..great Idea...obviously would change and use blue or paint a masculine color and use masculine pillowcases but this is an awesome idea

I have seen this project EVERYWHERE. I personally do not like it very much because it has become commodified and does not reflect any originality for me. BUT I believe it could serve as a jumping off point. What if this idea was used instead to introduce encaustic art to high schoolers? You can do so much with wax to make beautiful 2D work and go beyond simply melting it on a canvas.
