Beutelbuch or girdle book dates to 1471 and belonged to one Hieronymus Kress from Nürnberg

Make a Girdle Book. In this workshop students will create a medieval style leather “girdle book”. These books were worn by monks, nobles and women in medieval times. The long tapered tail at the end of the book was slipped through the belt or girdle, and the knot/knob at the end stopped the book from coming off. The book hangs upside down, for easy reading while still on one’s belt or girdle.
