Ellington's appearence at Newport in 1956 revitalized his career. The Big Band era was fading and his own band was operating at a loss. Public taste was shifting to bebop. Ellington's performance of "Diminundo in Blue" and "Crescendo in Blue," with Paul Gonsalves on tenor sax, electrified the crowd and led to the 1956 recording, "Ellington at Newport." This was Duke's best selling album and kept him at the forefront of jazz musicians for the rest of his career.
