The Oakland Auditorium, now the Kaiser Convention Center, was a showcase when it was built in 1914. It includes a 5,000+ seat arena, a large theater and ballroom. Sadly, it has been closed since 2006 as the city of Oakland haplessly fails to figure out how to make it viable. Maybe with Lake Merritt renovated and the estuary to the bay being cleared, this will make the convention center more attractive as a concert and convention venue. A nearby hotel is needed too.
