In 1917, Fitzgerald joined the army and was commissioned as second lieutenant in the infantry. Convinced he was going to die, he rapidly wrote the novel "The Romantic Egotist". It went unpublished.

Rats made it very uncomfortable for soldiers to stay in trenches. They never used them as a source of food. They just hung them up cause they had no where else to put them. Rats came when soldiers had died, and they needed food so they would eat the person next to you or even you. They would eat anyone even if you were alive.

This young boy is eating what's called a "Nazi Pop". These were created in Germany to influence Nazi beliefs, and implement Hitler into the lives of young children. The "pops" helped HItler gain followers in his time of power.
