Puya berteroniana, Blue Puya (not spelled "berteroana") :: Endemic to Chile :: Bears huge 6'-10' flowering spikes up to 20 at a time, metallic, deep bluish green flowers with vivid orange stamens in Summer. Silvery foliage has recurved, hooked spines along edges and makes large striking 3 foot clumps. Slow growing, enjoys very dry, well drained soil. Monocarpic: though rosettes die after blooming -offsets carry on=)
Tropical plants for a special order
The Tabebuia Tree flowers in Southern Mexico in early spring. At full bloom, the trees are leafless and covered in dark pink flowers. As leaves begin to return, the flowers start falling and cover the ground in a pink carpet. Tabebuia impetiginosa, Family Bignoniaceae. Tabasco, Mexico. 13 April 2015.
