Fan, France, 1760-1770, "Chickenskin" vellum leaf, painted gouache. 20 stitcks, 2 guards: ivory, carved pierced and painted.  Leaf: Face: Chickenskin, painted in gouache with a shepherd and shepherdess in a woodland clearing, shepherd playing the musette. Three attendant sheep and a large classical urn. Multi-coloured and gold border of swags, flowers and scrolls and edging of gold paper. Sticks: Ivory, carved, pierced and painted in polychrome and gilding. Guards: Carved and pierced.
