Camilo Ferreira Botelho Castelo Branco (1825 - 1890) was one of the most prolific writers of Portuguese literature and striking. Novelist, columnist, critic, playwright, historian, poet and translator, was also the first. Viscount de Correia Botelho, title granted by King D. Luís. His most important works were, Amor de Perdição, A Queda de um Anjo and The Crime do Padre Amaro.

António Soares dos Reis (1847 - 1889), was a Portuguese sculptor, who renewed greatly the Portuguese sculpture of his time, although the misunderstanding on the part of society at the time had led him to the suicide. Among his most notable works, is a white marble statue "O Desterrado" (1872), inspired in verses of Alexandre Herculano.
