Tess is excited. Today is her first day of school, and her very first ride on a school bus. Waiting at the bus stop with her older friend Gus, Tess eagerly asks, "Is this the bus for us, Gus?" as each vehicle passes by. Weekly Reader, library-bound edition (1969) of the famous story of "The Little Engine that Could," by Watty Piper, illustrations by George and Doris Hauman. I grew up with this book, and so did my kids--the copy I read to my son who will soon be 20 was purchased by me before he was born, and I wrote "to my baby" inside the front cover. This isn't that copy, but I liked the way the blue border offsets the illustrations.
