The Miracle of St. Zita, by Bernardo Strozzi (1581-1644)
The Charity of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary _ Edmund Blair Leighton
St. Januarius (martyred saint) was tortured & beheaded in 305 AD. His body was moved in 10th century to Beneventum, while his head remained in Naples. Later his body was discovered in the Abbey of Montevergine in 1480. He is famous for the reputed miracle of the annual liquefaction of his blood, first reported in 1389. When these capsules are brought into the vicinity of his body, 3 times a year, the dried up blood liquifies. Attempts to explain this goes unanswered even unto this day.
