November 2013, once-every-10-years event occurred at Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA: entire canyon was filled with fog. The phenomenon is known as ‘temperature inversion’. Warm air acts as a lid to seal cool air near the ground, trapping fog in the canyon. According to National Weather Service, this happens most often during winter, when long nights allow air near the Earth’s surface to become unusually cold.
