Verse caption evidently traditional: "Das macht der Furwitz/ Dass Ich auff dem Igel sitz" [It is curiosity that makes me sit on the hedgehog]. The motif is also found with same caption as a Swiss glass Wappenscheibe dated 1568 attributed to Balthasar Federlin of Konstanz
