Olympic in dazzle paint during WWI. In May 1918, she rammed and sank a German U-boat and is estimated to have carried up to 201,000 troops and other personnel during the war. She earned the nickname "Old Reliable" for her service as a troopship.
The dazzle design was a type of camouflage designed to make the ship's speed and location hard to gauge. The idea was that German U-Boat soldiers would not be able to accurately lead the target and would fire their torpedoes to one side or the other of the boat.
