One of Alaska's biggest events takes place in the winter: the Iditarod, the sled dog race from Anchorage to Nome that is held each March. Sixty-four mushers begin the race, ending 8 days, 22 hours and 46 minutes later for the winner.

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is an annual long-distance sled dog race run in early March from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. Mushers and a team of 16 dogs, of which at least 6 must be on the towline at the finish line, cover the distance in days or more.
