Gordon Parks was an American photographer, film director, writer  He directed “Shaft” & co-founded Essence magazine. He was the first black photographer at Life magazine & the first black director at any big Hollywood studio.  In 1937 he read an article on migrant workers: "I saw that the camera could be a weapon against poverty, against racism, against all sorts of social wrongs. I knew at that point I had to have a camera." 10 years later he was the only black photographer at Vogue.

Gordon Parks

Gordon Parks was an American photographer, musician, writer and film director. He is best remembered for his photographic essays for Life magazine and as the director of the 1971 film Shaft.
