On pg 110 Baba yelps, "I don't know what's wrong with our daughter. She has no decency..." She is punished however it is ironic because she got both the cigarette and book from England. She faces the confusing and unjust double standards of her father. The smoke foreshadows her escalating anger ready to blow up.
