He actively participated in 6 campaigns: Sicily, Italy, Normandy, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. On D-Day he emerged from a crash-landed glider to participate in the liberation of Ste-Mère-Eglise. He earned two bronze stars, became a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor, and was awarded the Belgium Croix de Guerre.
