Compared with traveling on their own, horses when trailered along with another horse spent significantly more time eating and less time vocalizing, pawing, and tossing or turning their head.  Being accompanied by a mirror though, was almost as comforting as the presence of another horse. Researchers installed an acrylic safety mirror, measuring 81 by 60.5 centimetres (32 by 24 inches), into the trailer used to haul a single horse.

Grålle, here he is 19 years old - One of the last workhorses in Stockholm, photo is taken1965. His work was to pick up loads at the train station. Back then there was no rules how much a horse should pull, it was how much it could. According to the article he once pulled 3,5 tons plus the wagon: 4520 kg. Grålle was a mix of Percheron and Belgian Ardenner. Grålle died 1967. He was very well taken care of and lived a good life. Photos taken by Kätie Strandberg.
