The Turquoise-Browed Motmot inhabits Central America from SE Mexico (mostly the Yucatán Peninsula) to Costa Rica, where it is common and not considered threatened. It lives in fairly open habitats such as forest edge, gallery forest and scrubland. Its call is nasal, croaking and far-carrying. This Motmot is a well-known bird in its range and has been chosen as the national bird of both El Salvador and Nicaragua.

The Southern carmine bee-eaters (Merops nubicoides) (formerly carmine bee-eaters) are social birds breeding in colonies.

The Hamerkop ranges from Africa, Madagascar to Arabia, in wetlands and rocky coasts. It's a sedentary bird, not globally threatened. Its behavior is unusual: up to 10 birds join in "ceremonies" in which they run circles @ each other, calling loudly, fluttering wings & raising their crests. They are compulsive nest builders, constructing 3-5 nests/year whether they're breeding or not.
