Cleopatra (69 BC - 12 Aug. 30 BC) was the last active pharaoh of Ptolemaic Egypt. After her death, Egypt became a province of the recently-established Roman empire. She did not speak Egyptian, but Greek, yet presented herself as a reincarnation of the Egyptian Goddess, Isis. She consummated a liaison with Julius Caesar, but following his death instead aligned herself with Marc Antony, in opposition to Caesar's rightful heir.
