1850s Cache-peigne headdress of silk chenille and wire. Written provenance states that it was worn to a ball following the Lincoln-Douglas debates in Galesburg, Ill. (Oct. 7, 1858) The provenance actually says Galenga Ill. 1860, but I have corrected the information here as it was obviously written many years later. It also states that "Geraldine got the dress". Sigh...Who was Geraldine and what did she do with that dress?!?
