Serra do Rio do Rastro and State Highway SC-438, linking the coastal plain and the Lages plateau, Santa Catarina, Brazil ~ mountains are typical volcanic, basaltic rock in average 850 meters (2800 ft) layers. The highway was finished in 1984.
Cerro Negro Volcano #Nicaragua Cerro Negro is in the Cordillera de los Maribios mountain range, about 10 km from the village of Malpaisillo. It is the youngest volcano in Central America, having first appeared in April 1850. It consists of a gravelly basaltic cinder cone, which contrasts greatly with the surrounding verdant hillsides, and gives it its name, which means Black Hill. Cerro Negro has erupted frequently since its first eruption.
