Louis Sullivan ornament, photo by Richard Nickel - Taken from the interior of the old Chicago Stock Exchange building before it was torn down. Nickel's work is a part of the Art Institute, on permanent display. Louis Sullivan is now known as one of the greatest of all American architects and much of his body of work exists solely in Nickel’s archive.
Detail from the cartouche of Merchants National Bank, Grinnell IA, 1914, Louis Sullivan, architect. The color and design are wonderful; it surrounds a large round window on an otherwise plain, rectangular building.
