Solomon Northup was a free-born African American from New York, the son of a freed slave. A farmer and violinist, he owned a property in Hebron. In 1841 he was kidnapped by slave-traders, having been enticed with a job offer as a violinist. When he accompanied his supposed employers to Washington, DC, they drugged him and sold him as a slave. Crispus Attucks was born in 1723, a slave on a plantation in Framingham, Mass. When Crispus Attucks was about sixteen, he was sent to Deacon William Brown in Framingham, Mass. There his jobs were buying cattle, working in Deacon's Chandler"s shop, and traveling to look for customers. When Attucks was 27, he went on a business trip to Boston where he applied for a job as a whaler. Attucks chose a boat that rarely returned home near Deacon's house, just in case the Deacon searched for him.
