The Black Eye Galaxy (Messier is a spiral galaxy with an apparent magnitude of lying approximately 24 million light years from Earth. It is sometimes also called the Sleeping Beauty Galaxy or Evil Eye Galaxy.

The Hubble eXtreme Deep Field (XDF) image, released in 2012, is our deepest optical view of space thus far. It shows over 15,000 galaxies from 13.2 billion years ago. Due to the length of time it takes light to travel, many of these galaxies no longer exist. If viewed from earth, the XDF image would take up about as much of the sky as one-tenth of a full moon.
