#N11 is a giant ring of emission nebulae, so we can see it in the image that Josep Drudis presents on his website AstroDrudis. In the complex grid of gas clouds and star clusters within our neighboring galaxy, the Great Magellanic Cloud, we find one of the most active star-forming regions of the nearby Universe. This small Milky Way satellite galaxy contains numerous sparkling gas bubbles, one of the largest and most spectacular is LHA 120-N 11

Astronomers using data from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope have caught two clusters full of massive stars that may be in the early stages of merging. The clusters are light-years away in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a small satellite galaxy.

This is a deep image of the Sword of Orion - the three stars that make up the weapon hanging off the belt of this famous celestial hunter. The image showcases the amazing mix of physical and optical processes including atomic emission, Rayleigh scattering, reflection and absorbtion of light, that go on in this star forming region to create this kaleidescope of colours and details.

Nearly 200,000 light-years from Earth, the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, floats in space, in a long and slow dance around our galaxy. Vast clouds of gas within it slowly collapse to form new stars. In turn, these light up the gas clouds in a riot of colors, visible in this image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope.
