This week we’re learning the “Ollie”. Honestly, it’s quite difficult on most longboards unless you have a nice board with big tails but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible!
- •1️⃣ Step off the heelside edge and practice popping the board off the ground. You can catch it with your hand so you don’t just eject it into yourself.
- •2️⃣ FOOT POSITION: Place your back foot on the tail, front foot in the middle of your board.
- •3️⃣ Try popping the board from the tail, shift all your weight forward onto your front foot, and take your back foot off the board. This allows you to practice pushing down on the front to lift the back of the board up without worrying about your back foot preventing this.
- •4️⃣ Send it! The timing on this can be tricky but it’s all about shifting all board weight to the front as soon as your tail touches. With longer boards I find myself using my knee on the nose to get the board leveled out and in the air.
