While some of the species on the rocks surrounding the pools dip down into the "tidepool" itself, many species would not otherwise be able to live this high up in the intertidal without this pocket of water in the rocks. Deep pools like this one are great to observe for longer periods of time. Look for hermit crabs, tidepool sculpin and other marine life living amongst the plants.
