One Room Challenge Week One
The amazing blogs listed above are all participating in the One Room Challenge. Linda, of My Crafty Home Life, created and organized the challenge, and I so much appreciate being included. The objective is to finish one room in 6 weeks. If you're new to The Pink Pagoda, thank you very much for visiting today. I'm happy you're here! For the challenge, I've chosen my breakfast room, which has been neglected for years. There are things that were never done, and things that were done that I…

Van Day Truex Envy
Jealousy reared its ugly head last week as I was perusing the February issue of House Beautiful. It was while reading the article on designer John Peixinho's attractive Newport house that I about fell out, so to speak. Right there on page 78 was a photo of Peixinho's dining room, which featured a wall devoted entirely to wash drawings by designer Van Day Truex. To someone like me who covets Truex's drawings (and who dreams about the day I own one of my own), this photo was simply…

Little Edie Beale states that "no one with convictions is schizophrenic." Can the same be said for the modern chintzophrenic? I adore nothing more than a modern designer with strong convictions. And, to see said designer confidently mixing conflicting elements brings a smile to my face. Two of the best chintzophrenic designers, Kelley Wearstler and the great Miles Redd. A K.W. book. A K.W. interior. A M.R. interior. A M.R. interior.
Bunny Williams opened her own interior design company, Bunny Williams Incorporated, in 1988 after twenty-two years with the venerable decorating firm, Parish-Hadley Associates. Schooled in the classics, restraint & appropriateness are hallmarks of Bunny’s style. Objects, patterns, textures & colors, beautifully balanced, have an appealing undisciplined look — the direct result of great focus & meticulous planning. Her passion for design extends beyond interiors into the garden.
Mr. Hadley and his partner at Parish-Hadley, Sister Parish. He Was born and raised in middle Tennessee and died here in Nashville March 29, 2012. He was known world wide for his interior design and his client list included Astors, Rockefellers and many more front page names. His style was timeless and according to Bunny Williams, a leading designer who got her start at Parish-Hadley," Albert taught us that the past is the foundation for the present, and creation brings us to the future."
Mrs. Henry {Sister} Parish II , with one of her beloved Pekes, never studied decorating, never even graduated from high school (Foxcroft), but her innate sense of what was right and pleasing to the eye made her the Grande Dame of American decorating in the 20th century. Her company, later Parish- Hadley when she partnered with the great Albert Hadley turned out some of the century's top designers, including Mark Hampton and Bunny Williams.
