7th Grade Classroom
Your Job -vs- My Job: This is a great back to school activity. We met up at the small group table and discussed jobs that students might have, and the jobs a teacher has to do. We discussed what would happen if we didn't do these things? Once we created our anchor chart we all signed it as a contract reminding ourselves of the importance of being responsible and doing our jobs in the classroom.
Using stations on the first day of school sets the tone for the year. Show students that they will be out of their seats, engaged in learning, and collaborating with classmates in your classroom. These six stations, some group tasks and some independent tasks, are intended for completion within a 45-minute period. These stations can be used in any subject or grade level, and all of the station directions and activities can be edited to fit the needs of your classroom.
If you're going to have a substitute and you love Post-its, this idea is for you!! I left instructions for my sub to give sticky notes to students for doing things I would be proud of. They wrote their name and "proud moment" on their note...such a nice welcome back from being out when you see all those sticky notes!!
