Tribute to the airline my dad worked for from 1985 until the Delta merger in 2009. Northwest Orient acquired Republic Airlines in 1986, which gave them an excellent domestic route network as well as hubs in Detroit and Memphis. In the early days, Northwest helped pioneer travel across the Pacific by developing the Great Circle Route.

Returning from a brief holiday in central Germany in 1992, I spent a while on Frankfurt's observation deck before catching my Lufthansa flight back to Heathrow.
