Clunky Drummer uses one motor to walk through phased rhythm patterns. It converts them to MIDI via piezo transducers, sending bass, hat and snare signals to a drum machine. This is tweaked along with the effect chain which transforms the sound. I'm presently cutting together a video of the full installation, documenting the site, ambient sound and audience reaction. This artwork uses is a highly directional beam of sound almost like a laser. The work does not use a normal speaker but rather it is made of many small ultrasound speakers that cause some funky physics stuff and creates sound out of thin air. It’s not the music that triggers dance, it‘s the dance that creates music! The challenge was to get the museum‘s visitors dancing. But music alone wouldn’t make it for a spontaneous groove. By looping both guitars through each other a state of perfect resonance is almost achieved. But since these two industrially manifactured objects are not completely alike, the frequencies never match perfectly and subtle shifts happen in the texture of the sound.
