Cocceius (pronounced: cōc-ˈsay-əs), laid the foundations of Covenant Theology, or Federal Theology as it is now known. A German-born scholar of OT languages and of rabbinical literature, and a prolific author, he taught in Bremen, Franeker and Leiden. His covenant-based theology, most fully expressed in his work, Summa Doctrinae de Foedere et Testamento Dei (Doctrines of the Covenant and Testament of God), provided the framework for much of the Reformed theology that followed.
