I recently purchased this antique Cairn's & Bros. fire helmet... I will not restore the paint on this one, as it's got a fantastic true vintage "aged" red original paint patina, but I may add an old vintage Oceanside Truck Company 1 front shield to it before displaying. This lid will be my Project #2 build.
Late 1970's "Survivor" Cairn's & Bros. Salamander leather fire helmet, (as well as being the same style hung on the companies apparatus) fire helmet from Salamander HL&B Co. 1 w/ yellow company color painted on rear two rib panels. This is an original helmet from the company.

Late 1930's, early 1940'S Cairn's & Bros. leather helmet. Not an original Oceanside (Salamander) helmet, but I did like the TRUCK 1 OFD front shield that was on this 100% original helmet, so I purchased it for my collection. I will be refinishing this helmet in an antique red paint finish w/ deep amber shellac in the near future. (April 2016)
another look at the Terrace lid w/ slight restoration work... note the orange company colors painted on the rear two ribs for company identification. This company color practice goes back to the late 40's, early 50's and each company in Oceanside had it's own company color markings for identification of company property and fire scene recognition.
