The purple Wisteria pictured here only represents the website, but this Southern California nursery strongly advocates "cassia fistula" as a favorite tree of theirs. Most nurseries try to disuade you and steer you into a different variety. It's worth it to stick with "c. fistula". Don't let anyone tell you it can't grow in SoCal. I am doing it and I have seen it done. There was a mature tree that drew people out of their cars to ask about in Arcadia, The new property owner chopped it down.
