London Airport (now London Heathrow Airport) was during the 1950s and into the 1960s one of the 'designed' places in Britain - the new jet age saw a seemingly bold architectural and graphic style that sadly was overwhelmed as the airport grew and air travel become more popular. The airport had signs with typefaces designed by Matthew Carter and the architect Frederick Gibberd was also heavily involved in sign location.
